The email sat in the inbox, a digital serpent that had delivered the fatal bite. He felt his jaw clench, his teeth grinding together in a silent fury. A potent force seemed to course through him, tightening his muscles and quickening his pulse.

He wanted to scream, to smash something, to explode in a torrent of frustration. Instead, he forced himself to breathe, to count to ten. It was useless. The building sensation grew.
