"We're…we're what?" The words felt wrong in her mouth. She repeated it again. "We're being sold?" Her voice was a cracked whisper. She had to sit down. The world felt like it was tilting, the floor seemed unsteady beneath her feet.

She clutched her chest, trying to regulate her breathing. Her hands were shaking so violently that she could barely hold her phone, and she needed to speak to someone.

This was a shock, she thought, and then a wave of exhilaration crashed over her. She gripped her phone tighter, dialed her best friend, and heard the familiar ring tone. "You won't believe what's happening here!"

Her voice had taken on a new tone. Energetic. Excited.
