Gemotions

The silence, punctuated only by the faint hum of the machinery, was almost unbearable. Alex found himself compulsively straightening his tie. Beside him, Chloe was doing the same with her skirt.

He noticed the slight tremor in her hands. She kept glancing at him, her eyes wide and dark. His own palms were sweating.

“This is… awkward,” she said, her voice a little shaky. The space, suddenly, felt impossibly small.

He cleared his throat. "Yeah, well, at least we have each other." The words were clumsy, inadequate, but they hung in the air, charged with unspoken meanings.

Her gaze locked with his, and he felt a flush creep up his neck. He fought the urge to reach out, to touch her. The feeling inside him was building.
