He was acutely aware of every sensation: the scratchy fabric of his suit, the tap of his foot against the floor, the low murmur of the air conditioning. Across from him, Jessica was talking about Camp Wildwood, and a sudden, sharp clarity invaded his mind. A sudden sense of happiness.

Every memory she spoke of felt alive and vibrant, and the feeling was spreading in his chest, a strange feeling like heat. He wanted to lean closer, to be closer. He wanted to reach out and touch her, to be a part of it all.

"You," he said, his voice a little husky, "you went to Wildwood? That’s... incredible." He found himself smiling uncontrollably. He needed to get away from his desk. He had to be able to breathe.
