"Fresh," she muttered, her eyes scanning the bouquet of red roses. They sat on her doorstep, a splash of color against the drab brick. No name. No message. Just pure, unadulterated crimson.

She took the roses inside, breathing in the scent, sharp and intoxicating. She knew this feeling, a familiar dance of anticipation and uncertainty. Her hands trembled slightly as she searched for a vase, her mind racing.
