"I need a break," Sarah muttered, her voice raspy. The noise in the coffee shop was overwhelming, each clatter of cups and murmur of conversation amplifying her inner turmoil.

She had to meet with her niece, Chloe, and as Chloe showed her drawings, her eyes widened. There it was again, the character she recognized from her own childhood: a fluffy, purple monster with enormous, kind eyes. It was Bartholomew, her imaginary friend.

Sarah reached for her coffee, but her hand shook too much. The warmth of the beverage offered a little comfort. Perhaps, she needed to embrace her past a little more.
