He stared at the email on his screen, the words blurring before his eyes. The hammering next door was a deafening soundtrack to his mounting worries. He ran a hand over his face, feeling the fatigue that had settled deep in his bones. It was a physical ache.

He rubbed his temples. The incessant din was a relentless pressure, a constant reminder of everything he needed to accomplish. His pulse was quick, shallow. He felt like his head was going to explode.

He slammed the laptop shut and stood up abruptly. He had to move, to do something, anything to distract himself. He could not focus, and the lack of focus was making things worse.
