“Oh, for crying out loud,” she muttered, her voice barely a whisper against the deafening clamor. She was trying to finalize the deal, and the hammering next door was like a constant assault. She chewed on her lip, a nervous habit she’d picked up in times of trouble.

She threw the phone down on the desk, the impact causing the papers to flutter. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, a frantic drumbeat against the silence of the room. She was so close to closing the deal, she could not fail.
