Gemotions

The office air conditioning hummed, a monotonous drone that did little to cool the sweat prickling at Clara's hairline. She couldn't focus on the spreadsheet in front of her. Her partner, David, had been extra attentive lately, almost cloyingly so. The way he kept his phone glued to his side, darting off to take calls in the hallway, made her feel queasy. When he thought she couldn’t hear, she had overheard him speaking in a voice she barely recognized. A knot tightened in her stomach, and she felt suffocated.
