Gemotions

The silence in the apartment felt oppressive. The ticking of the grandfather clock in the hall was a deafening reminder of passing time. I couldn't seem to stop my gaze from wandering to the phone on the table. He kept going outside to talk on it. A strange number kept popping up on his recent call list. My hands were shaking. I’d reread the call log repeatedly, each time the numbers seemed to shrink my world. I felt a tightening in my chest, a sensation that made it difficult to swallow. I felt myself wanting to scream.
