Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, but Daniel couldn’t taste it. He was too preoccupied with the image of his wife, Chloe, whispering on the phone in the garden. He’d found a lipstick smudge on her shirt, a color he didn't recognize. He felt a pressure building behind his eyes, a dull throb that wouldn't go away. He went to the window, and watched her laughing and gesturing with her hands. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture failing to alleviate the sudden, overwhelming sense of unease.
