The presentation was tomorrow, and Clara could barely think. Her mind raced, a frantic hamster on a wheel. She felt a throbbing sensation behind her eyes. Across the coffee table, Daniel stretched, yawning. "That beach party was insane, right?" he asked.

Clara traced circles on the table with her finger. “I… I remember hiding in the bathroom, feeling completely overwhelmed. I thought everyone hated me.” Her voice was barely audible.

Daniel laughed, a loud, easy sound. “Hated you? No! You were the life of the party! You danced all night!” He looked puzzled by her admission.

The image of dancing felt alien. The idea of fun and enjoyment seemed impossible. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and she felt the overwhelming desire to hide. The situation was like a puzzle that would not resolve.
