Gemotions

He paced the cramped apartment, his shadow stretching and contorting in the dim light. The divorce proceedings were dragging on, draining him emotionally and financially. He felt wound up, unable to find a moment of peace. He’d come to the yard sale hoping to stumble upon something, anything, to distract him from the ache in his gut.

He almost walked past it, but then, he saw it. A threadbare bear with a missing ear, sitting forlornly on a table laden with broken toys. It was Barnaby. The bear he had given his daughter years ago.

He reached out, his fingers tracing the outline of the missing ear. The sensation of the familiar plush toy was soothing. It reminded him of simpler days, of laughter and shared stories. The knot in his stomach loosened, if only slightly. He paid the woman, carefully cradling the bear as he walked back to his car.
