The coffee cup rattled in Amelia's trembling hand. The headline blared from the laptop screen: "Beloved Novelist Accused of Plagiarism." It was Elara Finch, the author whose words had saved Amelia through countless dark nights. Her stomach churned, a cold knot tightening with each passing sentence of the article. She absentmindedly drummed her fingers against the desk, a rapid, erratic rhythm against the silence of her apartment.

Amelia’s breath hitched. She’d always found a strange kinship with Finch's characters, seeing a part of herself in their struggles. Now, the carefully constructed world felt brittle, ready to shatter. She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic thud echoing in the room.

Her jaw clenched, and she felt a tremor pass through her. Grabbing her coat, she stormed out of the apartment, the keys digging painfully into her palm. The late afternoon sun seemed harsh, the world around her suddenly too bright, too loud. She needed to walk.
