The flickering fluorescent light in the kitchen seemed to strobe, mimicking the erratic beat of her heart. She hadn't slept properly in days. The constant back-and-forth with Liam about the pet was exhausting. She could feel a headache creeping in behind her eyes, a dull throb that promised to escalate.

The smell of burnt coffee clung to the air, a testament to her morning struggles. She poured herself another cup, the bitter liquid doing little to soothe her frazzled nerves. Looking around at the messy kitchen, the open boxes from their last takeout order, she sighed and felt her shoulders slump.

She just wished he could understand.
