The knot in Sarah’s stomach tightened with each ping of her phone. Messages flooded in: "Can't wait for your party!" "See you on Saturday!" She stared at the screen, a growing sense of constriction in her chest. Mark's party. Her party. The coincidence was cruel, a twisted joke.

She chewed her lip, the taste of anxiety bitter on her tongue. The table in her kitchen was littered with half-completed decorations. Balloons lay deflated on the floor. Her carefully constructed plans seemed to be unraveling before her eyes.
