The aroma of freshly baked bread usually soothed him. Today, it was another source of irritation. He checked his watch for what felt like the hundredth time. The bakery, his refuge, had become an additional responsibility. Now his daughter, Olivia, had taken over, baking intricate pastries, her passion consuming every waking moment. He hated his sales report. He sighed, then went back into the kitchen, where he found himself picking up a rolling pin and banging it softly against the countertop.
