The air in the small apartment suddenly felt thick, heavy. Isabella felt a strange pressure behind her eyes, the beginning of a headache she knew would soon be unbearable. She slowly sank onto the worn sofa, the eviction notice still clutched in her hand. Her breath caught in her throat. She stared at the ceiling, trying to focus on something, anything, other than the words on the paper. Her fingers tapped a nervous rhythm against her leg. A single tear traced a path down her cheek, followed by another.
