"Unbelievable," she whispered, her voice barely audible. The listing showed the living room, the space where so many family gatherings had taken place. Now, it was just a collection of staged furniture. A chill went down her spine.

She felt a wave of nausea, her stomach churning. She crossed her arms, hugging herself tightly. The apartment suddenly felt small, confining. She stood up and began pacing, her steps quick and agitated.

She needed to do something, anything to distract herself from the gnawing emptiness. She opened the refrigerator, then slammed it shut without taking anything. She felt the tears welling up in her eyes.
