He felt his pulse quicken, his heart hammering against his ribs. The details on the screen blurred, the words swimming before his eyes. His breath came in shallow gasps. The house, his history, was being sold. He felt trapped.

He closed the laptop, the sudden darkness a physical relief. He needed space, air, to think. He grabbed his keys and stumbled out of his apartment, the door slamming shut behind him, an act of finality.

He walked aimlessly, the city noise swirling around him. The familiar streets felt alien, each building a reminder of lost time, of a past he couldn't grasp. The feeling of overwhelming pressure threatened to crush him.
