The woman stared at the notice, her grip tightening on the worn handles of her shopping bag. Her shoulders seemed to slump inward, and her eyes were fixed on the words. She felt a wave of fatigue, a profound weariness, wash over her.

She had already planned her evening routine: dinner, followed by the news. But the thought of going home, of confronting the implications of the announcement, felt impossible. Her feet were heavy as she turned towards the elevator. The metallic clang of the doors, usually a background noise, now echoed in her ears.
