The announcement crackled through the terminal, another delay, this time for "weather-related issues." Liam’s teeth ground together. He glanced at his phone, the missed calls and texts from his friend, who was throwing a surprise birthday party for him, a barrage of them. The insistent vibrations in his pocket were a reminder of his increasing isolation from the event. He had the option of taking a bus, but in his mind, it simply wouldn't do. He had booked his flight months ago. He would not be deterred. He would see his friends, with a smile that would probably seem a little forced now.
