The rain lashed against the windows of the coffee shop, mirroring the storm brewing inside Daniel. Across the table, Mark, his friend and rival, described his interview with an unsettling level of enthusiasm. "They loved my portfolio!" he kept exclaiming. Daniel just nodded, taking slow sips of his lukewarm coffee.

Daniel had poured weeks into his application. He’d gone over and over his resume. He'd even practiced interview questions. He'd done everything right. But something felt off.

"They'll be calling me back any minute," Mark announced, beaming. Daniel forced a smile. He would not show any kind of weakness. Not to Mark, and not to this job.

He needed to prove himself, not just to the potential employer, but to himself.
