The music was loud, the room alive with chatter, but all Liam could hear was the blood thrumming in his ears. He saw Chloe, his ex, laughing with a group of people near the photo booth. He didn’t want to go anywhere near her. However, he also wouldn't retreat. He'd come to celebrate, and he'd be damned if he let her presence dictate his actions.

He forced a smile onto his face and started walking towards her general direction. He moved at a glacial pace, taking his time, studying the intricate details of the flower arrangements as he passed them. Every inch he covered felt like a victory.

When he finally reached the group, he greeted them all, pointedly excluding her from his acknowledgment. He spoke loudly, making sure she could hear his jokes, and laughed, even when the jokes weren't funny. He'd show her he was perfectly fine.
