Gemotions

The constant clicking of keys from the laptop filled the otherwise quiet house. Across the room, Jason was pretending to work, hunched over his computer. Claire had witnessed him answer those calls multiple times. Each time, his face tightened, his voice dropping to a low murmur.

She walked past him, heading toward the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator, took out a carton of milk, and stood there for a long time, staring at it. The milk felt cold on her skin. She poured a tall glass, her hand shaking slightly.

She turned and went back to the living room. She closed the refrigerator door gently, then took a long, slow sip of the milk. She didn't speak. She just stood there, and kept drinking.
