The phone call from the school had come at the worst possible time. She was trying to finish a particularly difficult crossword. Ms. Gable. Her eyes narrowed. The woman was… overly enthusiastic, a force of nature in a classroom. Little Liam was sensitive. He wouldn't cope.

"He'll love her," her husband, David, assured her, his voice breezy. He just didn't get it.

She spent the next few weeks meticulously checking Liam’s homework, ensuring every sentence was perfect, every answer correct. She corrected Liam’s handwriting. She emailed Ms. Gable twice a week. She was determined that Liam would get the best possible education. She would not allow that woman to mess things up.
