He’d planted his feet, digging them metaphorically into the worn carpet of the IT department. Thomas was good at his job. He *liked* his job. The network was his domain. The new head of operations, fresh from corporate, had announced the move with a too-hearty slap on the back. Sales needed "his unique skillset." Thomas grunted a response.

The offer to relocate to the sales department was met with crossed arms and a heavy sigh. His gut twisted at the thought of cheesy sales pitches and forced smiles. He liked solving problems, the quiet satisfaction of debugging code. People were problems.

He spent the rest of the day meticulously documenting every line of code he'd written, every server configuration, his fingers flying across the keyboard with a focused intensity. He wasn’t going anywhere. He’d make sure they understood that.
