The email arrived, a carefully worded apology, laced with excuses. Clara deleted it without reading the subject line. This was the third time this week a new message had hit her inbox. She wasn't going to reply. He was the one who'd done the wrong, after all.

She walked the familiar route to her office, head held high. The crisp autumn air did little to dispel the tension knotting her stomach. The sunlight hit the glass of a building and caught her eye. She was not going to be the one to back down.

When she arrived at work, she ignored the concerned glances of her colleagues. The phone vibrated on her desk. His name. She would not pick it up. He was the one in the wrong. She’d made plans for the weekend, plans he had ruined.
