"Ridiculous," Leo huffed, tossing the invitation onto the coffee table. He immediately regretted it. He snatched it back up, as if expecting it to escape. He'd avoided this for twenty years, and he wasn't about to change now.

His heart thudded a little faster as he reread the words, the casual language, the assumed camaraderie. He imagined the judgmental glances, the unspoken questions. He'd never liked being questioned.

He needed a drink. He stomped into the kitchen, the invitation still clutched in his hand. He poured himself a generous glass of whiskey, then went back to the living room. It was easy to throw the invitation in the fireplace. So easy.
