The apology note had been taped to the door of their dorm room. A hastily scrawled message, offering a half-hearted expression of regret. He saw it and ripped it down. He wouldn’t be appeased so easily.

He ignored the text message that arrived moments later, the desperate emojis conveying remorse. He wouldn't engage. She should know better. The impulse to reply and yell was strong but he would show her.

He slammed his backpack on the floor, the sound echoing in the silent room. He didn't have to say a word. He would not respond. He would not acknowledge it. He was going to spend the whole evening in the library, and she was not invited to join him.
