Sarah glared at the folded piece of paper in her hand, the thin, cheap paper mocking her. The words, so neatly printed, felt like a personal insult. Dismissed. After all her hard work, after the countless hours spent perfecting her routines, this was the reward? Her chest felt heavy, like a lead weight pressing down.

She hadn’t even taken a deep breath since reading the notification. She crumpled the paper, the sound sharp and violent in the empty gymnasium. She imagined all the other girls, laughing, gossiping, and her? She was the one who got cut.

She marched across the floor, her feet echoing in the space. She’d show them. She would prove them wrong. She'd get back here one day, and they would see.
