He slammed the laptop shut, the screen flashing the headline about Blackwood. His chest tightened. He refused to admit his hero, his mentor, his muse, could be a fraud.

He grabbed his copy of "Shadows of the Past" – the book that had inspired his own career – and started rereading it, page by page. He was looking for evidence of the accusations, proof that his idol was flawed.

He'd read it again, and again, until he could disprove the allegations. This wasn't the end. This was a challenge. He would write a response. He would defend Blackwood.
