The world felt distorted to me after the announcement. The news had sunk into the pit of my stomach, a heavy stone. But I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing me upset. This place, *my* project, was going to be successful.

I ignored the attempts to implement "synergy" sessions and "team-building activities." When asked to collaborate on a presentation, I found excuses. I was too busy. My schedule was packed.

The other employees were talking about resumes and looking for new jobs. I was not. I would prove to them that this was a good job, a good place to work. I would make them see it.
