The phone buzzed on the counter. A text. Her sister. "Have you seen it? The house." Emily had been deliberately avoiding any contact. She refused to even open her email. The very thought made her palms sweat.

She closed her eyes, the familiar weight of the past pressing down on her. The house had held so many secrets, so many shared family moments. She remembered the arguments, the laughter. She was afraid to remember.

She picked up the phone, her fingers trembling slightly. She’d ignore it. She wouldn't reply. Not yet. She’d wait.
