He was at the gym. A furious session on the treadmill. He ran until his lungs burned, until his legs ached, until he could almost outrun the feeling. He wouldn’t let it catch him. He wouldn't let it win.

He saw the notification on his watch, the tiny image of the front door, the freshly painted blue. He increased the incline, pushing himself harder.

He knew what the new owners would do: tear out the old maple trees, replace the old paint, probably gut the house. His house. He wouldn’t look at it. He wouldn't let them have it. He was going to run forever if that's what it took.
