The email sat in Amelia’s inbox, unread for days. Her finger, hovering over the delete button, twitched. She knew what it was. She knew who it was from. A distant cousin, a woman she barely knew, contacting her about her father. Amelia knew where this was going. She knew what was coming. The email’s subject, "Concerning Your Father," seemed to sneer at her.

Amelia leaned back in her chair, the leather creaking under her weight. She had other things to do. Work, life, avoiding this email was easy. It was safe. She wasn’t ready for whatever this was going to bring. Not ready to question, to consider, to even think about her father’s past, and all the possibilities that came with it. She opened another browser window.
