It was a small, unassuming booklet, nestled between cookbooks on the shelf. Mark stared at it, the blood draining from his face. His wife, Lisa, had a secret savings account. The sheer audacity of it left him speechless. His knuckles were white as he clutched the booklet.

Later that evening, when Lisa came in, he was in the kitchen, casually leafing through a gardening catalog. "The roses are looking a little sad, don't you think?" he said, his voice clipped. Lisa frowned, examining the plants. “They’re fine, Mark,” she replied, puzzled.

He continued, his voice taking on a sharper tone, “We really need to invest in some new fertiliser, something top of the line. You know, give them a good boost.” He knew the price of fertilizer. He knew their budget. Lisa didn't. Her smile finally disappeared.
