“Look at you!” his dad crowed, practically vibrating with pride. He shoved the printed magazine in front of David’s face. “You’re famous!” David could smell the printer’s ink and his father’s excitement. David took a step back. His stomach churned. He refused to crack a smile. He would not let his father's gushing approval penetrate his carefully constructed shield of indifference. He took the magazine and put it on the table. He would not read it. Not here. Not now. He needed to get away. He excused himself, citing a sudden need for fresh air. His eyes scanned the horizon.
