The silence in the small apartment was deafening. Sarah had expected to be celebrating, planning her move, getting ready for the next chapter. Instead, she sat at the kitchen table, staring at the unopened mail, the unspoken weight of her circumstances bearing down on her.

She picked at the label on the coffee jar, the action as mindless as her thoughts. Time seemed to slow, each second dragging on, heavy and burdensome. She felt trapped in an endless loop, a repeating cycle of expectation and disappointment.

The phone rang, shattering the silence. She answered, her voice flat, devoid of emotion. She listened, the words washing over her, but the world seemed to be fading into gray. She didn't want to answer the phone, didn't want to talk, didn't want to do anything.
