The vibrant colors of the campus, the laughter of students, all seemed distant, filtered through a haze. Javi walked, his shoulders slumped, his steps heavy. The scholarship denial had slammed into him like a physical blow.

He stopped, leaning against a tree, watching the leaves rustle in the breeze. He felt the wind against his face, a cold, indifferent touch. He was expected to succeed, to reach for the future, but a thick, invisible rope seemed to restrain him.

His mind replayed the denial email, the carefully worded sentences, the polite dismissal. The hope that had sustained him, the energy that had propelled him forward, was gone, replaced by a hollow emptiness. He felt the blood drain from his face and the world around him tilt.
