The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Liam sat slumped on the sofa, the unopened invitations on the coffee table. He sighed, a sound of resignation. The parties, both promising fun, felt like inescapable obligations. He felt weighted down, his energy drained.

He had been going through the motions lately, unable to muster any enthusiasm for anything. His apartment felt like a prison, the walls closing in on him. The world seemed to be moving on without him.

He rubbed his temples, trying to dispel the mental fog that had settled over him. Even choosing what to wear to work had become an insurmountable task. He felt as though he was on a treadmill, running faster and faster, but getting nowhere.
