"A library," Emily repeated, the word a whisper. Her brother, John, inherited their parents’ luxury penthouse apartment. She, however, received their parents' extensive collection of books, housed in a small, cramped room.

She sat on the floor, surrounded by towering shelves of leather-bound volumes, feeling claustrophobic. She'd always known she should break away from her parents' expectations, the career path they'd charted for her. The books felt heavy, a burden of words and expectations.

She brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. She felt a strong urge to run and was rooted to the spot.
