The hospital room felt sterile, the air thin and artificial. He sat beside his mother's bedside, the news of his half-sister a heavy cloud hanging over the room. His mother wasn't conscious and he felt his own world collapse in a tidal wave of grief. The doctors had no answers, and he felt his own life slowly losing all color and shape. Everything was muffled and slow, everything hurt. He ran his hand over his face, feeling the fatigue of sleepless nights and the weight of unanswered questions. He felt rooted to the spot, unable to move forward, to make a decision, to escape.
