The mechanics garage was usually a symphony of clanging metal and roaring engines, but today it was eerily silent. Finn kicked at an old tire, the action releasing a puff of dust that momentarily obscured the sunlight. His mentor, old man Hemmings, had simply vanished, leaving a wrench on his workbench and a note in the toolbox.

He picked up the wrench, feeling the familiar weight. Each tool, each stain on the concrete floor, was a memory. The air felt heavy, thick with the unsaid. He had wanted to show him the modifications he'd made to the old engine. He wished he could have said goodbye. His heart felt as heavy as the wrench in his hand.
