The drive home was a blur. The highway stretched before him, a ribbon of asphalt leading nowhere. He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. The doctor's words replayed in his head, a broken record: mix-up, another patient, apologies. His personal medical history, gone, vanished, replaced by a stranger’s.

The houses whizzed past, a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes. He felt a cold dread settling in his gut, a feeling of helplessness he couldn't shake. He wanted to scream, to smash something, to make this awful reality disappear.

He pulled into his driveway and turned off the engine, the sudden silence amplifying the chaos within him.
