"No." That was all he said. His wife, Sarah, tried to comfort him, but he brushed her away. He sat alone at the kitchen table, staring at the empty space where his cup of morning coffee usually rested. “The Cozy Corner,” shut down. The place where he would spend his mornings, reading the paper, enjoying a blueberry muffin, and chatting with the owner. It was more than a restaurant; it was a ritual.

He stood up and walked to the door, hesitating, before returning to his seat. He couldn't face the outside world, not yet. He felt a strange tension in his chest, a reluctance to move, a desire to simply stay put. He felt hollow, empty, robbed of something essential.

He buried his face in his hands, unable to articulate the depth of his discontent.
