Gemotions

The drive back from the office had been grueling, the traffic a relentless torment. The fluorescent lights of the apartment building buzzed, a soundtrack to her discontent. She felt like a trapped animal.

She found it amongst some old cookbooks and recipe clippings. A letter addressed to the university she had dropped out of. The handwriting was hers, but the words seemed alien.

She read it, her face a mask of stone. It was a plea to be allowed back. A confession of youthful folly. A deep yearning for a life she no longer recognized. She tossed it aside. What a waste.
