She sat at the kitchen table, the remnants of breakfast untouched before her. The newspaper lay open, the headlines screaming of more troubles. A package sat on the table. A small, square box with a familiar return address.

It contained a necklace, a reminder of the best friend she had lost years ago. Accompanied by a letter of regret. She turned the letter over and over in her hands, its weight reminding her of the emptiness of her life. She pushed the box away, not wanting to open it.
