Her hand froze mid-air, clutching the door handle of the restaurant. A small sign taped to the door announced the closing. The shock rendered her motionless. She had been coming here for twenty years. The familiar scent of woodsmoke and roasting meat usually greeted her, pulling her forward. Now, the entrance loomed before her, a dark void. She slowly lowered her hand and sank onto a nearby bench, the warmth of the day fading. Her vision blurred, and the sound of the city seemed to amplify and distort.
