He rummaged through the drawers of his grandfather’s desk. It was a daunting task. The house held an echo of silence since the old man’s passing. He’d told the family there were "important papers" in there. He pulled out a box filled with trinkets and forgotten treasures. At the bottom, a sealed letter caught his eye. It was addressed to him, in his grandfather’s elegant script. He felt a strange tightening in his chest.

His fingers fumbled with the seal. The letter detailed the man’s regrets, his unfulfilled ambitions, and his deep love for his family. He blinked rapidly, his throat clogged with emotion. He’d thought he knew his grandfather well. He felt a strange sense of… displacement, as if the ground had suddenly shifted beneath his feet. He sank into the chair, the paper shaking in his grasp.
